Ontario Curriculum Connections:

Playing Word Magic helps your child practice his/her vocabulary skills in a fun, engaging and interactive environment! This game connects to the spelling and vocabulary strands of the Ontario Language Curriculum.  This game meets many expectations in multiple grades, one of which is:

Language: Writing

Use editing, proofreading and publishing skills and strategies, and knowledge of language conventions to correct errors, refine expression and present their work effectively.  Your child will spell familiar words correctly.

At-Home Activities:

*Print out the worksheets and make the letter cubes according to the instructions. This play-at-home game is a great way to help your child practice spelling and learn new vocabulary! This is a game the whole family can enjoy!

*Have you ever thought of reading the dictionary? It may sound a little nutty, but this is a really great way to engage your child in learning language in a way that is fun and different! Have your child choose a random page in the dictionary (either one you own, or a dictionary from the library) then have your child choose a random word on that page (take turns from day to day choosing the word). Read the definition together and the origin of the word, then use the word in a sentence!
