When a couple welcomes a new baby into the world, they begin the process of getting to know that child on many different levels. One of the first ways a baby is able to show who they are is how they respond to being hungry, having a wet diaper or feeling cold. The way they react to their environment is largely dictated by something called their temperament - the ease or difficulty with which they deal with life’s challenges. Host Cheryl Jackson recently sat down with Dr. Diane Philipp, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre in Toronto, to discuss the implication of a child’s temperament and how parents can deal with it.
