Full disclosure - I sit on Ontario's Healthy Kids Panel. Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews, invited 18 people from various sectors to form the panel last spring. The goal? To recommend strategies to reduce childhood obesity in Ontario by 20 percent in five years.
We've been reviewing research, brainstorming and listening to thought leaders - experts - who know a lot about childhood obesity. I've learned that the factors that contribute to obesity are complex and so must be the solutions.
It's important for us to hear from parents and caregivers too, those of you who are living and playing and working in Ontario and trying to raise healthy kids, so we've designed a survey. What do you think are the causes, the barriers and the solutions to childhood obesity? It will only take a few minutes online and will get you thinking about the issue - for your family and community. It will also help us learn from your experience. After all, you're the ones who have the big job of raising healthy kids.
