But she can't take their criticisms that the books are, well, really poorly written. Will the book club disband or can Muffy open up to new literary experiences? Best Enemies Mom has new clients coming over and they have a daughter who is D.W.'s age....and her name is even W.D.! They're going to be the best of friends! Turns out, no. They don't have anything in common. So D.W. and W.D. work together to convince their parents that they'll just never get along...and somehow, have a lot of fun in the process.

To boost school pride, Arthur and his classmates form the Lakewood Pride Committee, which fervently adds members, distributes buttons and creates special chants. But Brain and Sue Ellen decide they don't want to join - and are accused of not loving their school.

The big music recital for parents is coming up and Arthur is confident - until he hits a bum chord during a practice recital for students at school. Now he's terrified. Francine and the brain can both be pretty competitive. When it get out of hand, they refuse to co-operate with each other, and the soccer team risks losing the next big game. Arthur and Buster try to patch things up.

A cat is stuck in a tree, and it's Buster Baxter to the rescue! D.W. is driving Arthur crazy! She won't stop playing her new "Crazy Bus" CD. Then it turns up missing.

Too young to see a real "James Hound" movie, the kids decide to make their own. D.W., who was not playing nice with Kate, is sent to her room for ten minutes. Along with her imaginary friend Nadine, she try hard to last the whole ten minutes!

Arthur and Buster have teamed up with Binky Barnes to do an art project for school, and Binky, who's never been very excited about school work, wants to focus on abstract art. Arthur finds a pencil that seems to bring good luck. Everyone wants to use it, but it's getting shorter and shorter!

   

February 14, 1997

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? Despite D.W.'s threat of aliens, Arthur sets his tent for his first sleepover. Mad she can't be part of the sleepover, D.W. has some fun of her own. What exactly happens at midnight January 31? There are plenty of rumours, but no one seems to know for sure. Arthur is determined to stay up and discover the horrifying truth.

Challenged by Fern to enter a poetry contest, Arthur and his friend each write a poem to be judged by the famous poet Jack Prelutsky. A group called PAWS - Parents Against Weird Stories - wants to take the highly popular Scare-Your-Pants-Off books, a series of hair-raising, spine-tingling ghost stories, out of the library! Can the Scare-Your-Pants-Off Club save the day?

Mr. Ratburn's class is taking a field trip to visit parents at their jobs. Francine's not sure she wants the class to know about her dad's job. A new carpet and an attack of sneezing means Muffy must spend the weekend at Francine's. For poor Muffy this means sharing a room and -- gasp! -- eating leftovers. Can their friendship possibly survive?

D.W.'s beloved bird gets very sick, and despite D.W.'s eager ministrations, Spanky dies. But when a lonely frog decides to adopt D.W., she faces her greatest test - can she risk giving her heart to another pet? All of a sudden, Buster doesn't have time for Arthur. All he wants to talk about is his new friend Mike.

Arthur is not sure he's ready for a new baby in the house. What do babies do besides cry? Some of his fears seem to ring true: Kate doesn't like him. Or does she? The beach! The sun-dazzled beach! D.W. simply refuses to have fun. Doesn't everyone know there are octopuses in the water? Buster and Arthur make a long-awaited field trip to a dinosaur excavation. On his own Buster discovers a very interesting bone -- is it the remains of a dinosaur? Despite the call of science, Buster doesn't want to relinquish his find.
